frequently asked questions

  • Both, but only for clients located in California.

You can choose secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth or in-person sessions in my private Sacramento office. Some clients alternate between the two based on schedule and preference.

  • I operate as a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance. This approach prioritizes your privacy and ensures that all clinical decisions—including the frequency and duration of your care—remain exclusively between us. By working outside of insurance mandates, we avoid the requirement of a permanent mental health diagnosis, sharing of records, and the various treatment restrictions often imposed by third-party payers. This ensures your care is driven solely by your clinical needs rather than administrative oversight.

If you decide to explore reimbursement options, check if you have Out of Network (OON) benefits. You can contact your insurance to ask about submitting a superbill, or use a third-party company called Thrizer that automates much of the work.

  • Yes. What you share in therapy stays in therapy.

The only exceptions are rare, legally-mandated situations: threats of harm to self or others, suspected abuse/neglect of a minor or dependent adult, or a court order.

I never share your information with employers, insurers, or family without your written permission.

  • My practice is intentionally small and private. This means:

    • No support staff accessing your records

    • No insurance companies dictating or reviewing your care

    • Encrypted, HIPAA-compliant systems for communication, documents, and telehealth

    • A discreet office environment with low foot traffic

Clients who work in law, tech, healthcare, finance, public service, or other high-visibility fields often choose private practice precisely because of this level of discretion.

I routinely work with clients who require heightened discretion. This includes staggered scheduling, direct phone access for logistics, increased discretion around written communication, and additional confidentiality measures upon request.

Please reach out to discuss your needs, and we’ll build a plan that works for your needs.

  • Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance.

Late cancellations or missed appointments are billed at the full session fee.

  • Before our session, you’ll receive intake paperwork to fill out through a HIPAA-compliant secure online portal. Please fill this out in advance to make sure we’re both ready for your first session.

When you arrive, you’ll take a seat in the lobby. Help yourself to coffee, tea, or water, and I’ll come get you when it’s time for session.

Sessions are 50 minutes long unless we’ve discussed otherwise. In the first few sessions I’ll focus on getting to know you and we’ll establish goals for therapy. Therapy is not a quick fix, but some patients do find themselves feeling relieved after just the first session because they’ve taken the first step and are no longer carrying all their worries alone.
